THE FOX FAMILY HISTORY
This section of the website is devoted to stories about the early days of
Herman Fox, his wife Toba (Tilly was her American name but she went by her
given name of Toba), and their 9 children. Herman was born in Hungary in 1872
and Toba was born in Poland on May 9, 1877. They were both blessed with a
long and healthy life. In
addition to their 9 children, their lineage includes 24 grandchildren, 35
great grandchildren and 19+ great great grandchildren. Many of you might not
know that there was a 10th child born to them, a boy named David. He did not
make it past childhood, somewhere between 6 months and 3 years old, depending
on who you ask. It's also not clear about his birth order but I
think that he was the second child because there is a 2 year gap between most
of the children and there is a 4 year gap between Benjamin and Joseph. Also,
Joseph's middle name is David and I believe that he carries his brother's
name. Another reason that no one has a clear memory of him is that Ben, who
is the oldest, was still a very young child and Joseph was not
born yet or was just a baby. Excluding David, the birth order was: Benjamin,
Joseph, Isaac, Charlotte, Dotty, Claire, Bernice, Sam and Elsie.
Check out the links to the left for some interesting stories. Did you know
that the children came over on a ship called the Olympic and it was
the sister ship to the Titanic? The Fox Children link will take you
to page showing the young family
posing for a picture in Szaszgren in 1921. Within the picture are links to
each child as an adult. See if you can guess who each child is. Also, don't
forget to check out personal stories about each of the children and their
families in the Family Information section of the Photo Albums pages.
Also in the Photo Albums section you'll find some great pictures of
Szaszregen back in the early 1900's and some pictures of what the town looks
like today. The family history section will increase as more people contribute.
